What are the Pros and Cons of getting Cholear Implants?

I am loosing my hearing and I am in the process of getting cholear implants. I go see the dr next month to talk about this. I want to know if anyone on this board has cholear implants and if they like it or not and to tell me a little about their expeirinces.

What are the Pros and Cons of getting Cholear Implants?
The con of conchlear implants is that once you go that way, it's irreversible, and will shut out any future cures. Research is already being conducted on gene therapy that will be able to restore cochlear function, but it's not ready for humans for probably another 10 or maybe 20 years. So, think this one through carefully.

Addendum: Let me correct cdf-rom, and point out that a cochlear implant will involve removal of the middle ear bone that's connected to the cochlea, so that a wire may be threaded into the opening and into the cochlear chamber. This is how the nerves of the cochlea are stimulated. The problem is that, once this is done, it's irreversible, and that bone cannot be replaced.
Reply:I'd listen to your doctor on this, He has experience with lots of people who have needed the surgery. I have never heard of anybody needing to get their implant removed afterward. It is not very deep, just under the skin in the mastoid bone, IIRC. It has helped many thousands of people gain some hearing where they had none before, so it seems well worth it. If I was losing my hearing, I'd go for it. Good luck!
